We have a lot of code circulating about that is no better than graffiti, but we have so many people who are so fascinated that they can create it Mummy Iron Maiden tell me why I had ti be a power slave I want to be Santa Claus Christmas shirt, and how special that is, that they aren’t thinking about its quality and that quality matters in the long run. By this I mean not just code that doesn’t have bugs, is well organized, and is the most efficient at what it does, but also asking, “How does this express a powerful or interesting idea?” When I say this, I’m not saying that it enables the spreading of a written or spoken message. I’m talking about the idea expressed in the code itself. If we as a society can one day understand that concept, then I think the answer to your question is “yes,” because then coding, and what can be expressed through it (not just new effects in an app.), will have societal implications. They respected the fact that I did not tell them how it needed to be created, but focused on being really, really clear on what was wanted, listening to them in regards to what was possible/realistic, getting (and selling) clarification from the customer/others in the organization and getting back to them with a clearly thought-out, updated idea. Forget about trying to match tech skills if your job is essentially being a leader. Your job is to identify opportunities.
